Cleveland's going green
« on: June 24, 2009, 02:54:09 pm »
Hey everyone, I'm working on behalf of Positively Cleveland and we just celebrated the 40th anniversary of the Cuyahoga River fire. Cleveland, Ohio is commemorating that watershed event by celebrating the re-birth of a much greener city. For those unaware, the Cuyahoga River fire was an unfortunate incident that occurred on June 22, 1969 when some molten steel fell from a passing train into a slick of industrial waste floating on the water’s surface. This led to a groundbreaking piece of legislation that sparked a major environmental movement. Cleveland has since taken great strides in becoming a green city on a blue lake!

Positively Cleveland is dubbing 2009 "The Year of the River," and has compiled a list of 75 green reasons to love Cleveland along with eco-friendly ways to celebrate summer at Positively Cleveland - H2Ohio.

Green cities with big forested parks and street trees and rooftop gardens are an awesome way to aircondition the city.
Green cities should be an example of modern cities and not of cultural curiosities.
Congradulations cleveland one of the few places to have actually evolved. You are an example for the entire world and proof that it can be done and shall be done.
Global awareness is getting stronger with each green city.

This is really great for Cleveland; the city is a great example of positive change. I actually work for Triscuit, and we're currently teaming up with Urban Farming to help create 50 community-based home farms across the US. We're encouraging individuals to contribute to these community farms and also to start growing their own vegetables and herbs at home. Is anyone in here taking part in the “Home Farming Movement”? You can find more details at: www.triscuit.com/homefarming

Wow, congratulations! I think that the road to sustainability is really a one step at a time stairway. Cleveland really needs to set a great example for the rest of us. I am so proud! Do they have any wind or major solar sites planned for the next couple of years because I would love to do an eco-tour of the city when some developments are going on. There really is nothing like traveling around and witnessing the green revolution first hand. I once climbed a wind turbine in Iowa and that was a great experience. Wind energy is definitely my favorite of the renewable sources because it really creates lasting wind energy jobs that are not going anywhere. Wind turbines need to be maintained and serviced regularly so that means regular work for anyone who can go out in the field and work in wind farms.
